The Mice of St. Nicholas Church

THE STORY

A little closer to the heart of it.

Martha, Mabel and Michael fear that their accident has ruined the Christmas Eve service. Molly Dolly points them towards the Angel at the top of the tree. Shepherds, Wise Men and an Innkeeper share the nativity story while Toy Soldiers follow close behind. The Angel helps the mice hear what makes Christmas possible.

Who's at the centre?

Martha, Mabel and Michael Mouse lead the climb. Mother Mouse, Aunt Agnes and the Angel frame its emotional stakes and resolution.

How can the speaking roles flex?

Distribute or combine Shepherd Ornament, Wise Men Ornament and Toy Soldier speeches. Two Human voices are heard offstage. Keep Michael's nervousness and confession coherent when adapting the mice's dialogue.

Room for the rest of the group.

Candles perform a dance. More ornaments can populate the tree, and the cast joins several songs.

Bringing it to life.

Risers and changes of position suggest the journey up the tree. The script includes a fictional mouse adventure connected to Silent Night; it should be presented as a play.
